There are free survival games, and some that require coughing up the dough. Steam has been almost flooded with various, single-player survival games in recent years, as well as multiplayer and even MMOs.

We're going to attempt to mod our A19 server with Darkness Falls and see how that goes.Survival games are one of the most engaging genres available on the market today, with open-world and sandbox doing particularly well. Honestly I’m mostly looking forward to 7DTD Alpha 20, but that could be a few months away. Great game IMO but that ship has sailed for me, and my friend didn't like it.Īs far as Minecraft, my friend I game with already has 1000+ hours from it in the years past, so I wanted to find something new to both of us.

Terraria I've got hundreds of hours in, and I just didn't think to mention it because the last time I played it was probably 3 years ago. We’ve discussed that maybe we just didn’t give Valheim a fair shake and might need to give it another chance one day, but I think we’ll wait to see if they make any updates before then. Needs to be better balanced to play solo though and I might play it some. I did also buy Tribes of Midgard, which I would think might be a fun game for a larger group of friends, but it probably won’t work for us. Green Hell seemed pretty interesting and I may give it a shot one day, but it also seemed like it was just too in depth sometimes, lol! Empyrion I still haven’t seen enough of. I did watch about 2hrs of Kage848 playing Green Hell and a little of him doing Empyrion. I got my money's worth, so I can't complain, but overall not the experience I was looking for.

And why would I, as 4th-respawn-generation "airplane survivor" give a shit about whoever some little kid Timmy is when there's a island full of cannibals trying to eat me? All in all I'm glad I gave it a shot, but it's not for us and after ~20 hours playing, we're done. Even when you recover your loot it resets. Also losing all of your mapping, all of your stats, etc is dumb.

Earlier tonight, I was trying to find a way into the sinkhole and fell in, and all of my stuff is basically gone because there's no way to retrieve it naked. I can see why some people like it, but it just isn't for us. Things I don't like: needless B-movie horror gore and campiness. I like how they will run away, call for help, try and drag away fallen allies, etc. My friend had a good description I'd say of "Not quite a survival game, not quite a horror game." It tries to do both kind of okay and in my opinion falls flat on both accounts. I'm not 20 anymore, I'm 40 and my time matters.īought The Forest since it’s only $20. I don't like throwing away hours of my gameplay to griefers. Because of the toxicity, I haven't even bothered trying to do "Tall tales" which I know are some of the best gameplay, because I know I'll just have some band of assholes come steal it all. Recently we got addicted to Sea of Thieves, but that game stresses me out and I hate the toxicity of the PvP playerbase what is otherwise a very fun and relaxing PvE game to play.

Is there something I'm forgetting? Raft didn't really interest me cause it doesn't have dedicated servers (I prefer to rent and password protect servers to keep out randoms), The Forest seemed kinda "meh". We had a group of 5 players, and played it for about 9 hours. Developers that make megabucks in millions and have done very little additions to game in 7 months. Grindy for no reason, clunky, not much content. Personally, I think this game is extremely overrated. But I caved because a few other friends bought into the hype and we all bought it. I was dubious of this to begin with because it came out of nowhere and was suddenly being super promoted. Games I've disliked and why: Valheim - was a HUGE letdown. Excited for A20 this year, hopefully.Ĭonan Exiles - 1000 hours probably, enjoy the dungeons, base building is amazing, like the combat and boss fights, and also trying to capture all the best thralls I like the 7 day component making you work towards a goal. Was a rush!ħ Days to Die - 1000+ hours, been playing since 2013 on and off.

Games I've liked and why: Ark: SE - Tough environment, risk of dying any day, taming dinosaurs, breeding stronger dinos, crafting system and base building (I actually liked building "Ironclad"-like rafts/motorboats and going up rivers on The Island, lol. My concerns about purchasing the game(s): n/a The game(s) interest me because: My best friend and I enjoy open world survival, crafting, base building, etc. Game(s) I am considering: N/a, nothing specific yet
